Banner Finishing Guide: Hems, Grommets, Pole Pockets & More
Choosing a banner finish starts with how you plan to hang it. Tell us the banner size, where it will be displayed, and what it will attach to. A photo of the location or frame helps us recommend the right setup.
Ready to order? Our standard banner includes hems and grommets. Every other finish in this guide is quoted for your project; it is not included in the standard online price.
Hems and grommets
Hems fold and finish the banner edges. Grommets are metal eyelets used as attachment points. Our standard 13 oz Custom Vinyl Banner is specified with hems on all four sides and grommets approximately every 2 feet. Other spacing and corner-only options require confirmation.
Grommet detail. The metal eyelet provides an attachment point; use the mounting points specified for your installation.
Pole pockets
Pole pockets are sleeves formed along an edge for a pole or tube. Specify top and bottom or left and right pockets, and provide the outside diameter of your pole. Pocket width is not pole diameter. Keep logos and lettering clear of seams, and request the template for your exact size and finish.

Webbing and D-rings
Webbing is reinforcing strap material incorporated into the edges. D-rings provide attachment points. Their position and the reinforced edges must match your installation, so these finishes are quoted for the specific project.
Reinforced corners
Corner tabs can reinforce selected attachment points. They are a separate option from a standard hem and grommet finish. Ask us to confirm compatibility with your chosen banner.
Sewn-in rope
Rope can be incorporated into selected edges for an agreed mounting arrangement. Tell us which edges need it and how the banner will attach.
Hook-and-loop fastener
Often called Velcro, this finish is useful when the mounting surface has a compatible fastening strip. Confirm the required sides and whether the matching strip is included.
Trim only
The banner is cut to size without hems or grommets. Choose this only when your mounting system calls for unfinished edges.
Wind slits and oversized banners
Wind slits are cuts in the banner surface. Request a review before selecting them; they are not a wind-rating guarantee. Oversized banners may need joined panels. Finishes, seams, and shipping format depend on the size and material.
